Why Did I Choose Purchase?

Happy Valentine’s Day to all! I thought today would be the perfect day to tell you all about my love for Purchase!

My Tour of Campus

When I first came to Purchase College, I went on a tour of the campus. I remember being  here and seeing a grey, gloomy sky that day against the brick buildings and thinking, “Okay, so this is college, it looks a little sad but that’s okay!” Then I started listening to the tour guides and hearing what was in store for me if I came here.

Well first of all, they said Regina Spektor was an alumna and I literally had to pull over and breathe for a second because THAT was the coolest thing ever (and still is). I was hearing about all of the events, seeing artwork all across campus, learning about the programs, and I knew that Purchase was the place for me. I was able to look past a gloomy day to the bright future that lay ahead.

The Programs

I was one of those people who didn’t even take a tour at another school after that because I knew I didn’t have to. Theatre is my passion and I knew Purchase had what I was looking for. I originally wanted to come here for acting but took a Theatre and Performance route instead and it has lead me to so many opportunities.

Jobs & Opportunities

Speaking of opportunities, I also love the amount of jobs and other involvement that are available on this campus. Literally any building has something for you! A work study role, part-time job, an internship, anything! I have three jobs right now at Purchase and they have all been so rewarding for me. One of them, of course, is that I serve as an Admissions Ambassador!

The people here are also what make this a special place for me. I came from a predominantly white neighborhood, and seeing the different cultures and identities here at Purchase opened me up to so much. I have learned more than I ever imagined I would, I have grown, and I’m getting the education I need here and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

What if you don’t know where you want to attend college?

I know lots of you are getting your decisions from Purchase and other colleges right now. If, unlike me, you’re really unsure about where you’d ultimately like to go, I recommend coming here for a visit and talking to one of us! We also have two Accepted Students Days coming up on March 2 and April 13 (with a fair, classroom observation, stuff for parents/guests to learn about, and an accepted student party in our Stood!)
