My Favorite Purchase Memory

It’s difficult to pick my absolute favorite Purchase memory to date, but I think that one of the most remarkable moments I have had at this school so far was the first snowfall during the winter of my freshman year.

I’m from Brooklyn, so snow is equally as common where I’m from as it is at Purchase (it’s not like they’re that far apart, after all!), but the first snowfall at school felt particularly special.

I was hanging out with a few of my friends, all of us gearing up to trudge into the cold for a walk. We often took walks together either around the loop (the road that envelopes the perimeter of our campus), or we strolled to the Westchester airport (located behind our campus and about a twenty-minute walk from where we lived in our residence hall). I highly recommend a good walk to new students!

On this particular evening, we didn’t have a specific destination, but we began walking in the direction of the airport. On the way, two out of four of my friends got a little chilly and decided to turn back and meet up once we returned. My other friend and I decided to go watch planes fly over our heads in the cold.

Almost as soon as we got to the airport, a flake of snow fell right in front of my face. The two of us sat on a rock and watched the snow fall while simultaneously watching airplanes fly overhead. Growing up in the city, I had never been in a rural(ish) area during the first snowfall of the season before, and there was a no better place to witness it than here, with a new friend.

That beautiful memory will be with me forever, as will all the very many wonderful memories I’ve made over nearly four years at Purchase College.
