The Purchase College IELP is a full-time, intensive, six-week summer program for nonnative English-speaking undergraduate and graduate students conditionally admitted to the college. Students participate in 20 hours of course time per week. Classes are student centered, interactive, and taught by highly qualified instructors in a friendly, supportive environment. Courses are designed to assist students in achieving the English language proficiency and the confidence needed for effective participation in academic life at Purchase College. Emphasis is given to writing and oral/aural communication skills.
Purchase College sits on a spacious 500-plus acre estate in Westchester County, 10 minutes from downtown White Plains and just 30 miles north of Manhattan. With almost all the buildings centered within a great open space, it also offers the Neuberger Museum of Art and Performing Arts Center. Purchase College provides students with a vibrant and welcoming environment where they can study, collaborate, and create.
On-Campus Housing and Meals – Students are housed in the Commons apartments. The Commons is one of three apartment complexes at Purchase. It houses approximately 375 upper-class students and offers three types of apartments: one bedroom for three students with kitchen and bathroom; two bedrooms with a half bath, full bath, and kitchen; and three-bedroom apartments with two full baths and kitchen. All apartments have Wi-Fi and are furnished with a dining table, chairs for the number of occupants, enough seating in the living room for the occupants, refrigerator, and a stove/oven, as well as one bed, desk, desk chair, and dresser per resident. The Commons has a staff of community assistants and a residence coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member. Lunches are provided on weekdays.
Cultural activities include familiarizing students with area resources.
