Peter Powchik ’79 will receive the Purchase College President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni at Commencement 2014.
Powchik has had a successful career in clinical development at a wide range of leading pharmaceutical companies. He joined Regeneron in 2006, where he is currently Senior Vice President for Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs.
He’s played a key role in successfully guiding important products for cancer, eye disease, and inflammatory conditions through clinical and regulatory processes, and has had an impact on the development and commercialization of important new products that have changed the landscape for treatment of many diseases worldwide.
Powchik graduated from Purchase College with a degree in chemistry in 1979, after which he received his MD from New York University School of Medicine. Alongside his academic accomplishments at Purchase, he met his wife of 30 years at Campus Center South and honed speed chess skills that allowed him to earn pocket money playing chess at various street and park locales in New York City, thus substantially reducing his student loan needs in medical school.
