Full-Time Undergraduate Students

To be considered for financial aid each year, students must make satisfactory academic progress toward completion of degree requirements and be in good academic standing. Students must complete an average of 20 credit hours per academic year (fall, spring, and summer semesters) with grades of A, B, C, D, or P and maintain a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.0. In addition, students must complete all degree requirements in four academic years unless the student is enrolled in an officially recognized five-year program (i.e. EOP).

Students are advised to graduate within eight full-time semesters or after earning 120 credits (including accepted credits from Advanced Placement, Advanced Standing, and Transfer Student status), whichever comes first. Therefore, transfer students and freshmen students entering Purchase College with approved credits should complete their degree requirements in less than four years, depending on the number of credit points received when entering the State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase College.

Students who fall below satisfactory progress guidelines may still be eligible to receive financial aid, through an appeal process. This one time appeal process can be granted to meet satisfactory academic progress guidelines.

You do not qualify for federal aid under the following conditions:
  1. You have attempted over 180 credits
  2. You have attempted over six years of full-time financial aid
  3. You are placed on a probationary semester but failed to meet the minimum requirements of 10 credits per semester.

To better determine your academic progress, you will be required to complete all your incomplete courses (IPs) and provide verification of grades before finalizing an aid decision. If aid has not been renewed due to unsatisfactory progress, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services.
