Feeling Seen and Heard

Choosing Purchase

Milen Paulose ’23 chose to attend Purchase for many reasons; for one, she knew she wanted to study English language or literature, and, “Purchase seemed like a vibrant school that cared about the arts,” she says.

Affordability was also an important factor in her decision.

“Since I live in Rockland County, I could commute to school every day, and attending Purchase would allow me to complete my undergraduate degree without taking out a loan.”

Loving the Classes

Milen’s favorite things about Purchase are the classes.

“We have a small class size, and this makes every course personal and enjoyable. I love the discussions we have in all our classes, but specifically the Literature classes.”

Associate Professor of Literature Gaura Narayan teaches Milen’s favorite class, Literature of South Asian Diaspora.

“She is also my favorite professor. Being a South Asian immigrant myself, the class made me feel seen and heard. I read many works I may not have read otherwise, and we had riveting discussions in class.”

Extracurricular Activities

Milen works as a Student Assistant at the Career Development Center. She interned with New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) last fall and was a member of the Purchase Student Government Association’s Senate last semester. She’s a member of the Purchase College Leadership Institute, and this fall, she will be a mentor in the FYLCS, an advising program on campus.

What’s Next After Purchase?

Milen will graduate at the end of the fall 2023 semester and hopes to attend law school next year, working full-time and preparing until then.
