Building Access and Keys

Academic buildings are open 7 a.m.–11 p.m. on weekdays during the semester; some buildings are open longer. Academic building hours are modified on weekends and during vacation periods. Administrative offices are generally open 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. during the academic year and 8 a.m.–4 p.m. during the summer. (To conserve energy and realize cost savings without disrupting operations, the president may authorize a temporary building closure. For example, the Student Services Building was closed on Fridays during summer 2011 and 2012, except during the orientation period for new students.)

Each building on campus has a building manager, who must authorize keys for the respective building and offices. A key request form can be obtained from the building manager or the administrative assistant in the school or conservatory. The campus locksmith cuts the necessary keys and delivers all keys to the building manager.

To maintain security, please note the following policies:

  1. Faculty and staff are not permitted to give or loan their keys to another person.

  2. If you lose your key(s), please immediately notify the University Police and your building manager.

  3. Before leaving Purchase College, whether it is due to resignation, termination, or retirement, all keys must be returned to the building manager (who returns them to Facilities Management). Retired faculty members may not retain keys to buildings or offices after their retirement date.
