WHAT TO EXPECT

Orientation is one day of fast-paced programming designed to introduce you to campus life, resources on and off campus, academics and most importantly to introduce you to your fellow classmates.

At Orientation, you will be part of a small group of 20 students led by a Student Orientation Leader (SOLs).  SOL's serve as the 'know it all's' of campus.  They will answer questions about Purchase, help you find your way around campus and encourage you to make friends.

GETTING HUNGRY?  You will definitely work up an appetite at Orientation.  Don't worry; we've got you covered.  Breakfast and lunch are provided at Orientation for all who attend.  Special dietary needs are no problem; just make sure to let us know so we can make special arrangements.

Parents will receive a hard-copy letter in the mail with more information on Parent Orientation.

Cost

There is a $75 fee per parent to attend Orientation.  This includes the meals for the day, giveaways, and presentations.

All new students can participate in Welcome Week, which begins on August 28, 2015.

Welcome Week occurs at the beginning of the fall semester and is full of activities to help you get to know your Purchase College home.  We know that students who attend welcome events are more confident when they start classes because they meet new friends, explore academic and co-curricular opportunities, navigate campus, and learn about the Purchase College community.

We are so excited about your arrival, and looking forward to welcoming you to our Purchase community!!!

FAQ

Plans have changed. Can I change my Orientation date?
Absolutely! Please contact us at (914) 251-6332 or orientation@purchase.edu and we will be happy to change your orientation date if there is still space available.

I never received an email about Orientation. What do I do?
All orientation communications are being sent to your Purchase email account starting in late May. If you have checked your purchase email account starting in May and do not have an email, please contact us at (914) 251-6332 or orientation@purchase.edu.

*If you just paid your deposit to the college, it may take 3-4 business days for you to receive your invitation to orientation.

What is the fee for Student Orientation?
The fee for Student Orientation is $210. It is a mandatory fee that is applied to your Fall semester bill does not need to be paid separately. The Student Orientation fee is non-refundable if you do not attend Orientation.

Where will I be living for the 2015-2016 fall semester?
Housing assignments will be mailed out by the Office of Community Engagement in early July If you have any questions about your on-campus housing, please contact the Office of Community Engagement at (914) 251-6320.

When can I register for classes?
In late May, you will be receiving an email to your Purchase email account with information on how to register for classes. If you have any further questions, please contact the Advising Center at (914) 251-3990 or at advising@purchase.edu.

Do I need to attend Orientation?
All new students are strongly encouraged to attend Orientation. Students who do attend get a chance to make new friends, learn more about what Purchase is all about, begin their academic experience, and have a TON of fun! In addition, any student who doesn't attend is still required to pay the Orientation fee charged to their Fall bill.

Can I bring a friend with me to Orientation?
No. We do not allow new students to bring friends to Orientation. Orientation is your opportunity to meet new students who will become your friends for years to come.

What do I need to bring with me to Orientation?
To prepare for your visit, please bring the following items:

  • Your driver's license or other government-issued photo identification
  • Comfortable clothes and shoes
  • Sweater/sweatshirt for rooms with AC

I am having problems setting up my Purchase email account!
Contact CTS at (914) 251-6460 or visit the CTS email website for assistance.

Is Orientation and Welcome Week really that fun? Will I make new friends?
Yes, they are really fun! Freshmen who attend always comment on how it prepared them for the start of their college experience. In addition, some meet their future best friends, classmates, and roommates. The Orientation staff does their best to make it an enjoyable experience, but it is up to YOU as to how fun it will be. You have to take the steps to make the most out of the experience and meet new people!

I have a question that is not listed here!
E-mail SAF.Orientation@purchase.edu or call us at (914) 251-6332
