Q: Who should take the TOEFL?

A:

Non-native English speaking students who have not successfully completed college level English Composition 1 and 2 in a U.S. college or university with grades of B or better are required to submit scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS. Transfer students who have successfully completed two courses in college level English Composition 1 and 2 (not ESL or remedial English) at a U.S. college and earned grades of B or better in both classes are not required to take the TOEFL. The two courses must be equivalent to Purchase College’s courses in college writing. All other non-native English speaking transfer students who have not completed college level English Composition 1 and 2 are required to submit scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS test.
