Interim Head Coach: Bill Kutner (1st Season)

Bill Kutner joined the Purchase staff in the fall as the women’s volleyball team assistant and has now been made the interim coach for both the men’s and women’s program at Purchase. Kutner replaces former men’s and women’s head coach Nelson Kwok, whom he assisted during the fall season.

A former captain and three-year starter at Bryant University, Kutner played four years of college volleyball before embarking on a coaching career. He was an established player, who also took part in the 1985 men’s open division Empire State Games before moving into the coaching ranks. He was the head girls volleyball and softball coach at Byram Hills High School, leading their program to a handful of sectional appearances during his tenure in the late 1980s.

Kutner, who is an IMPACT certified, is also the head coach of the Alpha Gamma 17s. “I’m very excited about this opportunity,” he said. “We have a wonderful program here at Purchase, with a tremendous amount of potential. Through some intense recruiting, I expect big things from Purchase volleyball in the years to come.”

Palmieri added: “Bill did a very nice job in the fall and we are happy to have him on board for the spring season.”

Kutner takes the reins of a men’s team that went 7-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play last season.
