2009 Season in Review
Panthers Win 13, Reach Conference Semis in ’09
Laninga, de Muns Named All-Skyline
Purchase, NY (Nov. 3, 2009) – Very few coaches get to enjoy the kind of first year success that Patricia Troiano had this year at Purchase. The Western New England grad led the Panthers to their third consecutive playoff appearance in the Skyline Tournament, posting a 13-5 overall record.
Throughout the year, Purchase became a regular name on the Skyline Conference’s Honor Roll thanks in large part to Colline Laninga and Inna Karaseva. Combined, the two accounted for seven total Honor Roll mentions. Karaseva was also named the Skyline Player of the Week in mid-October and finished her senior season on a high note. The Panthers saw their season come to end at the hands of undefeated Mount St. Mary in the semifinals.

Purchase was one of the few teams to challenge the Blue Knights as the Panthers were ever so close to the title match this fall.
Still, this tennis season was one of great achievement, both from a team perspective and on a personal level for several players. In addition to the weekly honor selections, Purchase also had two women named to the All-Skyline Second Team. Laninga and captain Tatyana de Muns both garnered spots on the prestigious team.
After a rough 8-8 campaign last year, the women showed great tenacity to ensure a turnaround in 2009. Thanks to the senior leadership of Karaseva and de Muns, the Panthers enjoyed one of the more exciting falls in recent memory. Towards the home stretch, the women went on a dominating five-match win streak that included two shutouts and an overall 45-9 thrashing of their opponents.
With only two seniors graduating, and two juniors to follow in their steps, Troiano is expecting a deep, talented roster for next fall.
