Purchase, NY (Apr. 28, 2010) – A spring removed from the departure of standout Emily Stanley, arguably the best player in program history to don a Panther uniform, the “Orange and Blue” were staring down a rebuilding effort for 2010 in the competitive Skyline Conference.
Despite finishing last in the Skyline Conference at 2-12 (9-22 overall), Purchase’s up-and-coming core of underclassmen showed glimpses of what could be a bright future for the Panthers – sooner rather than later. Purchase was fifth in hitting, with a team batting average of.267, fifth in on-base-percentage at .338, fifth in RBI with 112 and second in triples with 12.
While the Panthers struggled on defense, committing 55 errors, the offense was churning out numbers good enough to keep them in any game. This season they all boasted the best defense at the catcher position (Purchase nabbed 32 percent of would be base stealers, tops in the conference) thanks largely to the play of captain Meghan Lalonde and fellow senior Jessie Domes, who each split time behind the plate along with freshman T’keyah Robinson.
Lalonde was a bright spot for the Panthers in 2010. She led the team in doubles (11), home runs (3) and RBI (24), and was the team’s second-leading hitter of the regulars. She also boasted a team-leading .595 slugging percentage. Domes and Robinson also played well defensively behind the plate and provided some key hits in the platoon throughout the spring. Robinson will have a chance to catch full time next season.
With the departure of Lalonde, standout shortstop Jennie Angelone will anchor the squad heading into next season. She saved her best for conference play this spring, batting a team-high .435 against the Skyline’s best. Purchase’s leading overall hitter also flashed the leather to the tune of a pristine .943 fielding percentage, using her speed on the bases and in the field to full advantage.
Purchase was fleet footed themselves, and finished fourth in stolen bases with 26. Such mobility came in handy during highlight wins over conference rivals Mt. St. Vincent and Sage earlier in the season.
The Panthers are on the brink of major success, as six of their losses came by only one run.
With freshman Abigail Katz, who came on strong in the outfield and with the bat in the second half of the season, returning alongside a young core that includes outfielders Jillian Lucas and Olivia Hintz, and the dynamic infield combo of second baseman Mariel Perez and Angelone, Purchase has a chance to turn some heads next spring.

(DH) Doubleheader
4/6/10 DH with CNR played at Purchase, but remained CNR home game
Purchase, NY (May 6, 2009) – With grit and moxie, the Purchase softball team battled to the end, winning a new college record 17 games in spring 2009.
Unfortunately, the new win total was just one game shy of the postseason as the Panthers faltered in the final weekend and ended their campaign with a 5-9 mark in the Skyline Conference. Despite missing the playoffs, Purchase, for the first time in college history, received an Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) bid.
No one epitomized grit more than senior co-captain Emily Stanley.
A force in the middle of the lineup,
Freshman Lindsay Froman led the Panthers with nine wins in 82 innings of work. She had a stellar rookie season on the mound.
The ’09 Panthers were also a team that could score runs in bunches and hit .328 collectively on the season. Rookie Jennie Angelone led the team with a ridiculous .443 batting average. Fellow newbie Jillian Lucas hit .429 and was tied with Angelone with an on base percentage of .500. Angelone was named to the All-Skyline 1st Team, joining Lucas, who was subsequently named Skyline Rookie of the Year,
The power in the lineup came courtesy of Morsanutto who batted .345 with a team-high five round trippers and 12 doubles. Protecting her in the lineup may very well be the Panthers’ next leader in making, third basemen Meghan LaLonde, who hit .351 at the plate for 33 hits and 17 runs scored. Even more impressive than her hitting was her fielding where rocket-armed LaLonde was often the recipient of the play of the day.
The 2010 edition of the Panthers promises to be scary good, even with the departures of Stanley, hard-hitting first baseman Patricia Orellana and outfielder Nicole Welge. With LaLonde and Morsanutto, Purchase will also be aided by speed demons Mariel Perez and bunt specialist Melanie Culpepper, who had 34 hits and went 22-for-24 in stolen base attempts. Culpepper later topped the All-Skyline 2nd Team. With Jessie Domes protecting the plate and Angelone and Lucas a focal point in the lineup, the rest of the Skyline has been officially warned: The Panthers are on the prowl.

Panthers Push MSM in Skyline Quarters
Stanley, Orellana Garner All-Skyline Honors
Purchase, NY – The Purchase College softball team had a season to remember this past spring. After being picked to finish on the outside of the playoff bracket, the Panthers clinched the five seed and came within one run of upsetting Mount Saint Mary College.
The Panthers finished the season with a 13-17 record, going 6-10 in conference play under first year coach Steven Loscher.
A major part of the Panthers’ success this season can be attributed to junior captain Emily Stanley (JR/Holmes, NY). The ace of the team, Stanley earned All-Skyline First team honors for her tremendous efforts. Stanley started 27 games, going the distance 17 times while throwing two shutouts. She finished the season with nine wins and an ERA of 5.93 to go with her 72 strikeouts. Stanley was also a force at the plate this spring. She led the team with a .420 batting average while scoring 25 times. Stanley drove in 13 runs to help her own cause on the mound.
Stanley was not the only Panther whose superb efforts were rewarded after the season. First baseman Patricia Orellana (JR/New York, NY) was named to the All Skyline Second team after a strong spring. Orellana’s 22 runs batted in led the team, and her .412 batting average was equally impressive. Orellana led the team with two home runs and had a .618 slugging percentage.
Newcomer Kiersten Morsanutto (SO/Norwalk, CT) improved as the season progressed and played well down the stretch. Morsanutto batted .339 while knocking in 20 runs. Meghan LaLonde (SO/Parishville, NY) made solid contributions as well, finishing the season with 22 hits.
With a majority of their starters coming back next season, the Panthers will look to push the competition further in the Skyline Tournament next season.
