Athletics to Unveil
Turf Field, Sept. 5 

Purchase, NY (Aug. 18, 2008) -- It’s time to cut the ribbon on Purchase College’s brand new turf field. The athletic department will unveil the near $2 million project to the campus community on Friday, Sept. 5 in a field dedication. Ceremonies begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the women’s soccer home opener.

Purchase President Thomas Schwarz and a host of other college dignitaries are expected. The short program will recognize FC Westchester and other beneficiaries who made the project possible.  

Purchase College secured a low interest loan for the athletic department to build the lighted turf field, which also features a press box and parking lot.

The lead contractor for the project was WJL Equities Corporation of Eastchester, NY. Sub contractors DeRosa Tennis Contractors, LLC of Mamaroneck, NY and D & M Electrical Contracting, Inc. of Elmsford, NY and landscape architect HMH Site and Sports Design of Ithaca, NY also played a major role in the completion of the field.

“The synthetic turf field gives the college an all-weather playing surface that increases practice, playing and recreational options for our entire program – especially our men’s and women’s soccer programs, which will be the first intercollegiate teams to compete on the field this fall,” explained Purchase Athletic Director Ernie Palmieri. “We’re extremely excited about the field and what it will mean to our program as we move forward. We welcome everyone to come out and celebrate the newest addition to our family.”
