Purchase, NY (Nov. 16, 2009) – The Purchase College Cross Country teams ran well in 2009, finishing among the best at Skyline championships and putting in a respectable showing at the highly competitive Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
Youthful legs helped women’s cross country excel. With four Top 5 finishes, including a solid fourth place finish at this year’s Skyline Championships, the women’s team has a lot to be proud of. The team’s sophomore combo and co-captains of Colleen Walker and Jessica Phumalee led the Panthers in five of their seven races.
Walker was the top finisher in every meet for Purchase, helping her land on the conference’s prestigious Honor Roll an astounding five times during the season. Sara Ricci, Amanda Chemeche and Jennifer Hansen are all expected to return in their senior outings next year. Mixed with their young star power, the women should be back in the mix next fall.

From a team perspective, the men supplied the majority of the buzz in the headlines. The men also turned in four Top 5 finishes this year and won the 2nd Annual Purchase Invitational. Led by standout sophomore Keith Greenbaum, the Panthers edged out Hunter by four points in their own invite. Greenbaum and senior co-captain Max Hendrickson led the way in racking up the accolades for Purchase. The duo each landed two Honor Roll nods for the year, even sharing a spot in mid-September.
At the Skyline Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park, sophomore Zach Wilson carried the team to a fifth place finish behind a 31:18.30 finish in the 8K.
With a strong core of underclassmen in place and a bright recruiting class expected next fall, Purchase should once again contend in 2010.

Purchase, NY (Nov. 10, 2008) – The Purchase College cross-country teams enjoyed another successful run in the Skyline Conference in fall 2008.
With a third place finish for the women’s team and a fifth place showing for the men’s team in the league championships, the Panthers continue to improve each season with their eyes on winning the Skyline crown.
After battling their way through the Skyline Championships, the Panthers put on their running shoes and made history at the ECAC’s as the women’s team made their first-ever entrance into one of the most prestigious DIII events in the country. Purchase finished 34th out of 42 schools. Meanwhile, the men’s team placed 41st of 48 teams.
All-Skyline First Team selection Maya Seegers finished fourth in the Skyline’s with a time of 21.57, and 91st overall in the ECAC’s with a time of 26.46.
The men’s team was championed by co-captain Phil Gallo, who came in 15th place at the league championships behind a time of 29.43 and ran at a pace of 30.36 in the 8K at the ECAC final in
The ’08 campaign was filled with many highlights for the Panthers, including a first-place finish for the women’s team in the augural Purchase College Invitational. The women’s team also ran three events in which they placed second in a field of 10 or more. The men’s team finished second at the Purchase Invitational, and had four top 10 finishes on the year.
A veteran squad, the women’s team says goodbye to three of their seniors who will be graduating in May. Top runner Amelia Feuer, Breanna Schebell, and co-captain Noel O’Donnell will all be missed. Their presence will look to be filled by underclassmen Jessica Phumalee and All Skyline Second Team selection Colleen Walker.
The men’s team saw the rise of rookie phenoms Julian Norton and Zach Wilson.
