(FROM B-2, B-2 PROSPECTIVE STUDENT VISAS, OR OTHER TYPES OF VISAS)
If you entered the U.S. with a visa other than F-1 or J-1, please visit International Student Services to evaluate the need for changing your immigration status. In many cases, it is possible to do this in the U.S. but you must see the Advisor as soon as you register.
If you entered with a regular B-2 visa, a request to change to F-1 status is often difficult and could be denied by immigration.
Other types of changes of status also require careful planning of the application. Please plan to meet with the International Student Advisor. A change of status in the U.S. allows a student to remain legally in the U.S. and attend school. However, if a student then travels abroad, the appropriate visa must be obtained before attempting to reenter the U.S. See "Rules for Travel" for instructions.
