Dr. Guffey is a specialist on design history, theory and criticism. She is currently working on a study of globalism and the geographies of design and an anthology of global design writing.
Research Publications and Presentations
Professor Guffey has recently published Retro: The Culture of Revival (Reaktion, 2006), a study of revivalism in postwar art and design (www.retrothebook.com). She is also the author of Drawing an Elusive Line: the Art and Career of Pierre Paul Prud'hon (2001). Dr. Guffey has written scholarly articles and critical reviews for a variety of publications including Nineteenth-Century Art Worldwide, Master Drawings, Apollo, Art on Paper and the Actes du Musée du Louvre. President of the Design Studies Forum (www.designstudiesforum.org ), Dr. Guffey is developing publications related to the field; she is founding editor of Design and Culture (www.designandculture.org), a journal that will be published by Berg beginning spring, 2009.
