Continuing Education - Youth and Precollege

Summer 2015 Youth Programs in the Arts:
Video Game Creators and Animators

Grades 4–8

Video Game Creators

Typical Day

Sign in Location: Library, 1004C

Create your own video game and understand the crucial elements in designing a 2-D game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics and elements, music and sound, software, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that you will explore as you learn how to really get into the game because you made it yourself! The second week takes your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name and then develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character that brings your video game creation to life!

To broaden exposure to the arts, Young Video Game Creators and Animators can be combined with Minecraft™ Designers and 3-D Video Game Creators, Code Breakers and App Designers, Creating Comic Books, Young Journalists (new!), Young Architects, Young Actors, Shakespeare Workshop, Young Filmmakers, Creative Vocal Lab, and/or Vocal Intensive to make for a well-rounded summer experience.

Session I: June 29–July 10
Monday–Friday, 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
$1,200 for the first registration
$1,080 for the second registration in the family, Purchase College employees and alumni, and early registrations (received by May 8, 2015)

About the Instructors

This program is designed by Black Rocket, an educational technology company that specializes in emerging technologies and instruction. Black Rocket has more than a decade of experience designing camps in the STEM and digital arts fields. Every program is powered by the campers’ innate imaginations and designed to bring their ideas to life in a fun, hands-on learning environment. From concept to creation, students will demonstrate their masterpiece to the world at the end of each week! All Black Rocket programs mirror real-life experiences and the collaborative nature of the design process. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
