Summer 2015 “Appraisal Camp” Certificate Courses

This accelerated summer program enables you to earn your Purchase College certificate in just over two weeks! Take courses individually (provided that prerequisites have been met) or earn a certificate by completing all certificate requirements. Upon completion of the certificate, you will have taken the first step toward (a) becoming an appraiser or working as an appraisal expert in a gallery, auction house, or insurance company and (b) qualifying for eventual accreditation and membership in the ASA. All required courses are taught by accredited senior appraisers. Costs / Early Registration Discount
In addition to the tuition, there is a $25 nonrefundable registration fee paid once per semester. The early registration discount applies to registrations received (paid in full) by May 8.

Introduction to Personal Property Valuation (PP/GJ201)
Learn general valuation theory, basic appraisal terminology, and economic concepts that apply to valuation. Become acquainted with the appraisal process, ethical concerns of the appraiser, and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the professional standards of the appraiser.

Development of a Personal Property Appraisal:
Research and Analysis

Understand the appraisal process, from identifying the appraisal problem through developing the “scope of work” to solve the problem. Expand your appraisal terminology, and gain knowledge about the market research and analysis methods needed to reach conclusions of value.

Communication of a Personal Property Appraisal:
Writing the Appraisal Report

Explore the basics of communicating an appraisal as a written report. Understand the required elements of an appraisal report, and obtain guidance on organizing a document that presents logical argument for value. Learn to use proper appraisal terminology and research methodology to complete your appraisal report.

Personal Property Valuation:
The Legal and Commercial Environment
(PP/GJ204)
Investigate compliance with laws and regulations, and expand your understanding of professional standards and ethical requirements. Use analysis techniques for concluding fair market value. Gain additional insight into the auction market, the insurance industry, how tort law affects appraisers, and legal precedents on which many appraisal issues are based.
