General Information
Purchase College Overseas Programs
All students at Purchase College are encouraged to participate in the College's summer programs in China, France, Italy, and Spain. Students from other colleges are welcome to apply as well. These interdisciplinary programs include courses that fulfill major of SUNY General Education requirements. In addition to all levels of language, courses are offered in a wide variety of disciplines such as art history, cinema studies, philosophy, journalism, drawing, political science, history, and biology. New courses are added every year.
A statement of estimated fees accompanies each program description. Students should make their own arrangements regarding financial aid for summer or academic year programs with the financial aid office on their campus.
Applications follow each program. Students will be advised of an admission decision soon after the program application due date. Early applications are always recommended!
For SUNY students, credits earned on SUNY study abroad programs count toward graduation. Non-SUNY students should meet with their academic advisors to confirm that Purchase College credits are transferable.
Purchase College Exchanges
Current eligible Purchase College conservatory students might opt for an exchange in a wide variety of disciplines in Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, England, or Scotland. Tuition is paid to Purchase College, so only living expenses and academic fees are paid abroad.
SUNY Programs
In addition, eligible Purchase College students may take advantage of hundreds of programs offered in over 60 countries through State University of New York (SUNY) colleges and universities. These programs offer a myriad of courses from Renaissance art to aboriginal studies taught in English or Zulu or Korean, for example. Prices are affordable and most financial aid can be used for SUNY programs.
Purchase College believes that studying abroad is a privilege and an honor. Therefore students on academic or disciplinary probation are ineligible while on probation. Students should consult the college catalogue (Academic Policies - Off Campus Study) for more detailed information about study abroad approval.
Many students opt to study or work abroad after completing an undergraduate degree and there are manyoptions available through SUNY colleges and universities. An interesting and challenging alternative is to become a Peace Corps worker in a developing country.
