The Political Science B.A. Program: Student Learning Outcomes

(2004-05)

Students will demonstrate:

  1. A general knowledge of the structures and functions of the U.S. government and nongovernmental institutions
  2. A general knowledge of how various national and international political systems function
  3. A particular knowledge of the concerns of third world/developing nations with regard to human rights, poverty, economic development, and political legitimacy
  4. A particular knowledge of U.S. foreign policy and how it affects other governments and peoples
  5. A particular knowledge of race, ethnicity, and gender issues in both national and international contexts
  6. A general knowledge of the concepts and methods of reasoning that characterize Western and non-Western political thought
  7. A foundation in research methods and understanding of scientific theories used in the discipline
