All majors in the School of Humanities lead to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. Undergraduate students in the School of Humanities may choose to major within a discipline, emphasizing the mastery of a particular field of knowledge and its methodology. Alternatively, they may choose to treat the field as a focus for an integrated liberal arts education that combines studies across disciplines. (For example, a student might choose to major in philosophy with substantial work in the natural sciences, or to major in history with substantial work in literature.)
Students plan their studies in consultation with a faculty advisor. The advisor works closely with the student to establish a program of study that fulfills both general degree requirements and requirements for the major, and that takes advantage of the many interdisciplinary opportunities at Purchase.
