Purchase Records...

  • is an innovative and ambitious series of recordings that display the diverse talents in the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. The label was launched in 2000 by Joe Ferry, James McElwaine, and Karl Kramer, with the release of the Grammy-nominated CD Public Domain. To date, Purchase Records has released five CDs and received three Grammy nominations.

  • features the talents of our resident and visiting faculty members, each of them a renowned professional musician; the distinctive talents of our student performers, composers, producers, and engineers; and the collaborative talents of other selected professional musicians from the metropolitan New York area.

  • is a good example of our Conservatory’s uncommon teaching method. It allows our students to learn in a professional environment how to write, perform, arrange, orchestrate, produce, engineer, mix, edit, and master the recorded part of our musical art. The learning continues with a study of postproduction, design, packaging, manufacturing, publishing, distribution, touring, promotion, marketing, and corporate collaboration.

At Purchase College, we believe the study of music should include all the elements of music’s past accomplishment, its present-day potential, and its future possibility. Our Conservatory is acclaimed for its unique and intensive preparation of young musical artists in a thoroughly professional community that is, at once, both artistically competitive and individually nurturing.
