The ultimate goal of the teacher is to enable a student to express himself; a process which requires both an understanding of the music - its character, its flavor, and its emotional power - and the ability to communicate that meaning through sound. Technique and a physical understanding of the instrument are essential elements of this ability, but equally important is the necessity to teach the student how to take the music in, and how to give it out, as a personal expression, to the listener.
