Over his busy career, Ralph Lalama has performed, toured and recorded with an extensive array of notable musicians and bands; among them are Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Carnegie Hall Jazz Band (under the direction of Jon Faddis), Carla Bley and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra – now the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra – with whom he is a featured soloist on Monday nights at New York’s Village Vanguard.
His vast and varied experience also includes tours and/or performances with many great jazz artists, like Barry Harris, Harold Danko, Mel Torme, Carmen McRae, Tom Harrell, Joe Morello, Ann Hampton Calloway, Peter Cincotti, Richie Vitale, Michael Weiss, and the Joe Lovano Nonet.
In leading his own bands or as a sideman, he has toured numerous countries and continents: Japan, Korea, Israel, Africa, South America, Scandinavia and the whole of Europe. Festival highlights include North Sea Jazz, Pori (Finland), Newport Jazz, Playboy Jazz, Monterey Jazz, JVC New York and Festival a Vienne (France).
Highlights for the current season include performances and teaching clinics with the newly organized Westchester Jazz Orchestra. His 2004 tour schedule takes him on the road with the Joe Lovano Nonet and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.
