DIVERSITY INITIATIVES COMMITTEE
Work Group #1
Wednesday, November 8th Minutes

Attending: Tara Blackwell (group leader), Rochelle John, Erik Connolly, Hilary Blackman, Carolina Sanin

The meeting was called to order at 2pm.

1. Tara distributed the work tasks (devised by Jay) and the Oneonta instrument to the committee. All members reviewed the information. We agreed that our main objectives are to:
   • To collect and maintain a comprehensive guide of programs and services that focus on diversity appreciation and/or multicultural education.
   • To develop an instrument (using Oneonta’s as a model) for outreach to the campus community as a means to collect this information.
2. We will begin with compiling the diversity information from our own areas. Tara: Career Development; Carolina: Humanities; Erik: Student Clubs; Hilary: Admissions; and Rochelle: EOP/MAP.
3. The next task is to create a complete list of the departments, organizations, programs etc on campus that we will contact. Tara will type up a list and send it to the rest of the members. Each of us will sign up for those departments we will individually reach out to. Carolina already volunteered to contact Social Sciences and Hilary will reach out to Nat Science and the Neuberger. We will check with Jim to see which academic departments he may have already contacted.
4. Rochelle will work on developing the survey using Oneonta’s as a model. Tara will send it to Jay and the other members for feedback. Once the survey is established, we will send it out to our assigned departments. This will go out before Thanksgiving break with a due date of December 6th.
5. Our workgroup will meet every other Wed. (the opposite of the larger Diversity Committee meeting) at 3pm. Our next meeting was tentatively scheduled for Wed. Nov. 29. Tara will make sure this date does not conflict with the larger meeting. In between our scheduled meeting, members will email Tara as information is collected. Tara will compile all information to be shared with the group.
