Meet "Rave Guardian"

Purchase College is in the forefront of enhancing the security of our community by implementing the Rave Guardian system. Rave Guardian works with your cell phone and can be used to alert University Police in an emergency - providing UPD with your location and other critical information required for a rapid response. Rave Guardian works only when you trigger an alarm – it is a hosted 3rd party service – and your location and other information is not visible to anyone on campus until you trigger an alarm.

When you set off an alarm, Rave Guardian plots your current location based on your phone's GPS (if it is equipped with GPS) or by triangulating the signal from the three closest cell towers to help the police locate you as fast as possible to provide you with assistance. Your location is only identified when you set off an alarm.

Rave Guardian works in one of two ways:

1) Program a one-touch button on your phone as a Panic Alarm to receive immediate assistance from University Police

2) Set a timer as you depart for a walk across campus for a Virtual Safe Walk 24 / 7

• Call Rave to set a Timer and leave a brief voice-mail description of the route you plan to take
  • For example, "I'm leaving the Library now, for a ten minute walk to Fort Awesome, where I'm meeting a friend on the second floor. I'm wearing a black shirt and jeans."
  • Deactivate the timer when you arrive at your destination
  • You will receive a reminder text message at the five minute mark, and again at the two minute mark, to turn off the Timer

The Timer will become a Panic Alarm if it's not deactivated

• UPD Dispatch will see: "User did not deactivate their Guardian Timer."
• Your descriptive voice-mail is embedded into your Panic Alarm to provide UPD with those details and your phone's GPS will transmit your exact location to UPD.

When you deactivate the Timer after arriving at your destination safely, UPD will never know that you have even used the Timer / Virtual Safe Walk service.

If you are being followed and you have not set the Timer, dial the Panic Alarm:

Your information from Rave will immediately show up at the Police Dispatch, along with your photograph and location!

For example, program "9" as the speed dial for the Panic Alarm.

Rave Guardian will work in any location with cell coverage – on-campus or off. However, keep in mind that alerts appear at the College's Rave Guardian Console – and if you are currently in Manhattan or another off-campus location, UPD will be alerting the police in that location to provide you with the assistance you need.
