D. Selection, eligibility and orientation of committee members
Individuals serving on the Hearing Committee are role models and are expected to comply with all College regulations.

  1. Selection of Hearing Committee members
    a. Students
    By no later than April 1 of each year, the conduct officer will prepare and send to the Purchase Student Government Association for their review, a list of student members nominated to serve on either the campus Hearing Committee and/or the campus Appeals Board. The Purchase Student Government Association has the right of refusal, with explanation, to any nomination. In order to assure a widely representative committee, the conduct officer shall solicit nominations from the campus community; the conduct officer shall give consideration to such factors as academic standing, gender, ethnicity, major, residence status and such other factors as considered essential. If the number of vacancies which occur during any academic year becomes large enough to impair the ability of the discipline system to function, the conduct officer will promptly identify additional individuals. Students on the Academic Integrity Committee are selected by the student government, in accordance with procedures which they have established.
    b. Faculty
    Faculty members will be selected through processes adopted by the faculty for selecting representatives to the governance structures of the College. A full complement of faculty members to serve on the committees is required by the end of the prior academic year during which the term is to commence. Vacancies will be filled promptly through processes adopted by the faculty.
    c. Professional Staff
    Professional staff members will be selected through procedures adopted by the professional staff of Purchase College. A full complement of professional staff members on the committees is required by the end of the prior academic year during which the term is to commence. Vacancies will be filled promptly through processes adopted by the professional staff of Purchase College.
  2. Membership eligibility
    a. Students must at the time of appointment and throughout his/her term of office:
    (1)  Be matriculated in a degree program of Purchase College.
    (2)  Not be on academic probation.
    (3)  Not be on disciplinary probation.
    b. Faculty members must be on full-time appointment.
    c. Professional staff members must be on full-time appointment.
  3. Orientation
    The conduct officer will provide an orientation workshop to familiarize members with all aspects of this policy, related SUNY Board of Trustee policy, and all requirements of law which relate to the due process and privacy rights of students.
