I. Arts & Humanities Grants

1)   Program: Institutional Grants; Film Festival Grants; Academy Film Scholars Program

     Agency: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Institutional Grants provide modest funding for film-oriented projects, including college-based internship programs, to college film departments & organizations providing service or info related to motion pictures. Awards between $5-15K (deadline 1/15). Film Festival Grants are to make festival events more accessible to the general public.  Awards between $5K-$30K (deadline 7/1). 2)  Program: Franklin Research Grants

      Agency: American Philosophical Society

  Next Deadline: Oct 01, 2008

Supports travel to libraries and archives for research purposes, the purchase of microfilm, the cost of photocopies or equivalent research materials, and the costs associated with fieldwork and laboratory research expenses. Applicants must hold a doctorate or have published work of doctoral character and quality. Awards are up to $6,000 each. Deadlines: 10/1/08 and 12/1/08. Supports several grants to support the research of North American scholars to improve the quality of teaching about Asian cultures at the college & precollege levels. 4)  Program: Millard Meiss Publication Grants

     Agency: College Art Association

  Next Deadline: Oct 01, 2008

Supports book-length scholarly manuscripts that have been accepted by a commercial or university publisher but that cannot be published in the most desirable form without a subsidy. Works must focus  on art history or related subjects. Museum catalogues, excavation reports, articles, collections of previously published essays, or multi-author volumes are ineligible. 5)  Program: Fulbright Worldwide Scholar-in-Residence Program

     Agency: Council for International Exchange of Scholars

  Next Deadline: Oct 15, 2008

Supports proposals to bring scholars & professionals from abroad to U.S. colleges &   universities that infrequently or never have the opportunity to host visiting scholars. In addition to teaching courses, scholars give campus-wide & community lectures, help initiate international programs, & contribute to curriculum development.  Program is especially appropriate for small liberal arts colleges, minority-serving institutions, &   community colleges. Foundation supports the preservation, appreciation & advancement of the contribution of recorded music on American culture, from the artistic & technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of the future generations of music professionals. Awards grants to organizations & individuals to support efforts that advance the archiving & preservation of the music & recorded sound heritage of the Americas. 7)  Program: American Masterpieces: Chamber Music

     Agency: National Endowment for the Arts

  Next Deadline: Oct 10, 2008

NEA will provide grants to organizations to host regional chamber music festivals that will   highlight repertoire by American composers and include the participation of choral directors,  composers, and other choruses. Awards will range from $5,000 to $75,000. American Masterpiece applications do not count against the one app per institution limit for NEA's general grant program. In each case, the request must be for a distinctly different project. 8) Program: American Masterpieces: Dance

    Agency: National Endowment for the Arts

  Next Deadline: Oct 24, 2008

For the exclusively college- and university-focused component support is available for restaging, performance, and documentation of significant dance choreography in order to provide dance students with access to the legacy of American dance history. While faculty can assist with a project, the primary reconstructor/artist must be someone from outside the campus. For colleges and universities, all grants will be for $15K. 9) Program: Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants

    Agency: National Endowment for the Humanities

  Next Deadline: Oct 08, 2008

Supports planning or initial stages of digital initiatives in all areas of the humanities. Start-  Up Grants may involve: research that brings new digital approaches to the study of the humanities; new digital modes of publication; exploration of digital approaches to preserve, archive, & make accessible traditional & "new media" resources in  the humanities; planning new digital tools; & programs addressing the use of emerging digital  technologies in formal & informal education  settings. Can choose between Level I awards of up to $25K & Level II awards of up to $50K.

       Agency: U.S. Institute of Peace

Supports any project that fits within the institute's general mandate of international conflict resolution. Provides awards of up to $120,000 across a broad range of disciplines, skills, & approaches. Areas of interest include: conflict analysis and prevention; mediation and   conflict resolution; postconflict peace and stability operations; and religion and peacemaking, among others.
