Supports research on suicide and suicide prevention from a variety of disciplines: psychiatry, medicine, psychology, genetics, epidemiology, neurobiology, and others. 2)     Program: Supplemental Sabbatical Awards for Psychologists

     Agency: James McKeen Cattell Fund

 

  Next Deadline: December 1, 2010

Program supplements sabbatical allowances to enable psychologists to take a full year of  leave. Both   tenured faculty members and associate professors who are in tenure-track positions and are eligible for sabbaticals may apply. Preference is given to   psychologists who have not had a leave in the past five years. Maximum award is $37,500 or half of the recipient's salary.

3)     Program: Transforming Undergraduate Education in STEM 

     Agency: National Science Foundation        

                                                                                   

  Next Deadline: January 14, 2011

(Formerly Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement program)

Supports projects to improve the quality of STEM education for all undergraduate   students. Especially encourages projects that have potential to bring about widespread adoption of classroom practices that embody understanding of how students learn most effectively. Transferability and dissemination are critical.   Type 2 and 3 proposals due January 14. Type 1 proposals due May 27 for New York applicants.

4)     Program: Major Research Instrumentation 

     Agency: National Science Foundation

 

  Next Deadline: January 27, 2011   (tentative)

Solicitation expected late October with a January 27 deadline. Supports acquisition and development of shared instrumentation that fosters the integration of research and education in research-intensive learning environments. Proposals for inter- and/or intra-organizational instrumentation use are encouraged, as are development efforts that leverage the strengths of private sector partners to build instrument development capacity at academic institutions. Supports basic scientific research about the causes, consequences, and complexities of human social and cultural variability. Annual target dates for Senior Research by PhD investigators, Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement, High-Risk Research in Anthropology, and training and workshops are January 15 and August 15. Annual target dates for Cultural Anthropology Scholar awards for research-related, post-PhD training are January 16 and August 16. Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) and Graduates (REG) proposals due March 1.

Among the many research topics supported are attitude formation and change, social cognition, personality processes, interpersonal relations/group processes, the self, emotion, social comparison and social influence, the social psychology of health, and the psychophysiological correlates of social behavior.
