1) Program: Long Term Research in Environmental Biology (LTREB)

    Agency: National Science Foundation

 

  Next Deadline: Jul 09, 2008   (target date)

  Supports the generation of extended time series of

  biological & environmental data that address

  ecological & evolutionary processes aimed at

  resolving important issues in environmental

  biology. Researchers must have collected at least 6

  years of previous data & must present a cohesive

  conceptual rationale or framework for 10 years of

  research. Questions or hypotheses outlined in this

  conceptual framework must guide an initial 5-year

  proposal as well as a subsequent, abbreviated

  renewal.

2) Program: Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

    Agency: National Science Foundation

 

  Next Deadline: Aug 18, 2008

  Supports active research participation by

  undergraduate students in any research area funded

  by NSF. Two types of grants are available: REU

  Sites support independent projects to initiate and

  conduct research projects involving a number of

  undergraduates (tentative deadline for general site

  proposals is 8/18/08; Antarctic Program sites

  deadline is 6/6/08); 2) REU Supplements support the

  addition of undergraduates to ongoing, new, or

  renewal NSF-funded projects (deadlines vary by

  discipline).

4) Program: Chemistry Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

  Supports active research participation by

  undergraduate students in chemistry. The Division

  of Chemistry funds about 20 to 25 REU Sites a year

  (depending on the availability of funds) as part of

  the NSF-wide REU activity.  Projects involve

5) Program: Cultural Anthropology Scholars Awards

    Agency: National Science Foundation

  Provides methodological training by cultural

  anthropologists who are active researchers to help

  them upgrade their methodological skills by

  learning a specific analytical technique that will

  improve their research abilities (e.g. new methods

  of cross-cultural research, demography, remote

  sensing & GIS, ecological field survey,

  linguistics, methodological skills necessary to

  advance the scholar's research agenda). $100,000

  available to fund two awards of $50,000 each year.

  Research grants provide grants of $15,000 to

  $30,000 up to two years for individuals in any of

  the natural and social sciences and the humanities

  to conduct research to promote understanding of

  human social problems related to dominance,

  aggression, and violence. Fellowships have at least

  ten awards of $15K over one year to complete

  dissertations. Highest priority is given to

  increasing the understanding & amelioration of

  urgent problems of violence & agression in the

  modern world. Program is highly competitive.

  projects related to retirement. Priority projects

  have regional or national impact. Funding for

  systems is limited to nonprofit  agencies in IL,
