Complex Descriptions

Our eight residential complexes vary greatly in size, student population, and layout. We currently have 3 apartment complexes and 5 residence halls. (Click on the name of complex for pictures and more.) 

Residence Halls

Big Haus

Big Haus residents represent the entire spectrum of Purchase College students. The Big Haus community consists of 400 students: 250 Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors and 150 students in the First Year Experience program (FYE). Big Haus offers a variety of living arrangements including suite-style living (2, 3, or 4 bedrooms with a common area and bathroom), traditional double and triple rooms sharing a hallway bathroom and single bedrooms for upper-class students. 

Big Haus is staffed by a live-in professional Residence Coordinator and 13 Resident Assistants, including 4 who are specifically selected and trained to meet the needs of first year students.

Crossroads

Crossroads is a First Year Experience (FYE) residence hall. It houses approximately 285 first year students and about 15 upperclass students. Crossroads offers triple rooms sharing a hallway bathroom, suite-style living (2, 3, or 4 double-occupancy bedrooms sharing a bathroom and common area) and single bedrooms for upperclass students. 

Twelve upper-class FYE Resident Assistants live in the hall and are specially selected and trained to provide programs and resources for freshmen students. A professional Residence Coordinator also lives in the hall, supervises the Resident Assistants, and is available to help students make the transition to Purchase College.

Farside

Farside is a First Year Experience (FYE) residence hall. It houses approximately 250 first year students and approximately 20 upperclass students. Farside offers suite-style living (2, 3, or 4 bedrooms sharing a bathroom and common area) and traditional double and triple rooms sharing a hallway bathroom, as well as single bedrooms for upperclass students.  In addition to providing First Year Experience (FYE) programming for all residents, Farside is home to five First Year Learning Communities, in which students take a block of classes together and live on the same hallway during their first semester. 

Farside has 10 FYE Resident Assistants who are specially selected upperclass students trained to meet the needs of first year students, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member.

Fort Awesome

Fort Awesome Residence Hall is an upper-class student hall.  "The Fort" houses 309 students.  Each room is either a double or a triple and has a bathroom.  Fort Awesome Hall also houses the Upper Class Learning Environments.  One program- Service Yields Success- focuses on Community service and outreach programs developed by members of the hall.  The other program- The Sophomore Year Experience- is a continuation of the First Year Experience Program found in the First Year Residence halls.  Staff and residents in Fort Awesome develop programs that focus specifically on upper-class student needs.

Fort Awesome has nine Upper-class Resident Assistants who are specially selected upper-class students trained in Upper-class student needs, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member.

Outback

Outback Residence Hall is an upper-class and transfer student hall. The Outback houses approximately 180 beds. Each room houses two students with a bathroom in each room. There are eight suites in the building. Four of the eight suites have kitchens.  Outback Residence Hall houses the Wellness Housing program on campus.  The Wellness program houses students committed to holistic health and wellness. Staff and residents develop programs that focus specifically on areas of Wellness including Physical, Intellectual, Vocational/Occupational, Emotional, Social (Cultural, Societal, Family, Community), Environmental and Spiritual. Outback residents are also required to agree to abidie by the substance free living expectations as outlined in the Residence Life Agreement.

Outback has six Wellness Resident Assistants who are specially selected upper-class students, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member

Apartments

Alumni Village

Alumni Village is one of three apartment complexes at Purchase. It houses 404 upperclass students. Alumni Village offers apartments with 4 single bedrooms for upperclass students that include air conditioning, a washer and dryer and control of the heat in each apartment.  Alumni Village offers PREP housing which allows residents who can't go home the opportunity to remain on campus during the winter and summer breaks. 

Alumni Village has 8 Community Assistants who are specially selected upperclass students trained to meet the needs of apartment residents, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member.

The Commons

The Commons is one of three Apartment Complexes at Purchase. It houses approximately 375 upperclass students. The Commons offers three types of apartments: one bedroom for three students with kitchen and bathroom, two bedrooms with a half bath, full bath, and kitchen, and three bedroom apartments with two full baths and kitchen. All apartments are furnished with a dining table, chairs for the number of occupants, enough seating in the living room for the occupants, refrigerator, and a stove/oven, as well as one bed, desk, desk chair, and dresser per resident. 

The Commons has 8 Community Assistants who are specially selected upperclass students trained to meet the needs of apartment residents, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member.

The Olde

The Olde is one of three Apartment Complexes at Purchase. It houses approximately 390 upperclass students. The Olde offers two types of apartments: four person apartments with two single bedrooms and a double bedroom, and six person duplex apartments which have two single bedrooms and two double bedrooms. Each apartment has a full bath, living room dining area and kitchen. All apartments are furnished with a dining table, chairs for the number of occupants, enough seating in the living room for the occupants, refrigerator, stove/oven, one bed, desk, desk chair, and dresser per resident.


The Olde has 8 Community Assistants who are specially selected upperclass students trained to meet the needs of apartment residents, and a Residence Coordinator who is a live-in professional staff member.
