MEN'S GOLF

Head Coach: Jim Alfredo (1st Season)

Having coached over 20 seasons of golf and basketball at various levels, Jim Alfredo enters his first season as the new head coach of the Purchase golf team with much excitement.  With only one graduating senior from last fall leaving the team, Alfredo takes over the reins of a very promising group in Purchase’s third varsity season.

While coaching at Convent of the Sacred Heart in nearby Greenwich, CT., Alfredo has had numerous players receive “All-League” status and had winning campaigns in all but one during his time at CSH. One of his players qualified for the U.S. Open twice as a high schooler.

Alfredo, a Harrison, NY native, is also a decorated player himself. Growing up, he learned the game at the Westchester Country Club and at the Boca Raton Country Club. Alfredo has won seven amateur events and three long drive awards in tournament play.  From 2003-07, he owned and operated a driving range in upstate Connecticut, where he headed operations and taught lessons.

“My objective is to improve each player individually by focusing on implementing sound fundamentals through simulation drills,” he said, adding “We’re going to work and have a lot of fun along the way, too.”

The Panthers finished fourth at Skyline Championships last fall and return star underclassmen Ian Cumming, who was named All-Skyline in 2010. Alfredo inherits a roster that also includes six other underclassmen.

“The future is bright and I’m excited for the opportunity,” Alfredo said. “We’re expecting big things from Purchase men’s golf in 2011.”
