2008 Season Preview

Panthers Set to Make Playoff Run
Play No. 5 Emory Over Spring Break

Purchase, NY (February, 26 2008) – The Purchase College men’s baseball team is geared up for their 2008 season.

After a 12-17-1 record last year and a 6th place conference finish, Purchase and head coach Bill Guerrero have their eyes set on making the playoffs for the first time in the program's five years. The Panthers will be competing in the Skyline Conference after moving from the North Eastern Athletic Conference this year.

“Some question that the Skyline is much more competitive than the NEAC and that may hurt our playoff chances," Guerrero explained. "I don’t think that is the case. I think we are game ready. We played eight conference playoff teams, three NCAA tournament teams (Villa Julie, Skidmore, and Wesley) and a top JUCO in Suffolk CC last year, and we came away with a couple of victories and some close games.”

The Panthers will be returning 4 all-conference players, including the tri-captains shortstop Michael Shea (SR/Cortlandt Manor, NY), two-time NEAC 2nd Team;  first baseman Tony Dimitry (JR/Hilliard, OH), NEAC 2nd Team 2006 and Honorable Mention 2007; pitcher Chad Charney (SR/Port Chester, NY), NEAC Honorable Mention. Second baseman Jared Isaacson (JR/Port Washington, NY) was also named to the NEAC 2nd Team.
