I can't attend the session I was assigned to.  Can I change it?
Yes.  However, there is a space limit on each session, so they fill up quickly.  Please call Orientation at (914) 251-6332 or email us at orientation@purchase.edu to change your session.

 

How do I RSVP for Orientation?
To RSVP for Orientation, please click here!

I never received an email assigning me to an Orientation session!
All orientation date assignments are being sent to your Purchase email account starting in May.  It is also listed on your NextSteps page.  If you have checked your purchase email account starting in May and do not have an email, please contact us at (914) 251-6332 or orientation@purchase.edu.

*If you just paid your deposit to the college, it may take 3-4 business days for you to receive your invitation to orientation.

 

What is the fee for Student Orientation?
The fee for Student Orientation is $206.  It is a mandatory fee that is applied to your Fall semester bill does not need to be paid separately.  The Student Orientation fee is non-refundable if you do not attend Orientation.

 

Where will I be living for the 2013-2014 semester?
Housing assignments will be mailed out by the Office of Residence Life in early-August.  If you have any questions about residence life please contact them at (914) 251-6320.

 

When can I register for classes?
In May, you will be receiving an email to your Purchase email account with information on how to register for classes.  If you have any further questions, please contact the Advising Center at (914) 251-3990 or at advising@purchase.edu.

 

Do I need to come to Orientation?
All new students are highly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation.  However, we do not force any student to attend.  Students who do attend get a chance to make new friends, learn more about what Purchase is all about, join a club/organization, begin their academic experience, and have a TON of fun!  In addition, any student who doesn't attend is still required to pay orientation fee charged to their Fall bill.

 

I'm a commuter student.  Do I have to stay on campus during Orientation?
Yes.  We require all students attending summer orientation to stay on campus in a residence hall.  The reason for this is that it is a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun, and to enjoy the whole orientation experience. 

 

Can I bring a friend with me to Orientation?
No.  We do not allow new students to bring friends to orientation.  Orientation is your opportunity to meet new students who will become your friends for years to come.

 

What do I need to bring with me to Orientation?
To prepare for your overnight visit, please bring the following items:

  • A sleeping bag or sheets/blanket for your bed (size XL-Twin)
  • A fan!!!
  • A towel
  • Your driver's license or other government-issued photo identification
  • Toiletries and medications
  • Comfortable clothes
  • Walking shoes
  • Sweater/sweatshirt for rooms with AC

Is Orientation really that fun?  Will I make new friends?
Yes, Orientation is really fun!  Freshmen who attend always comment on how it prepared them for the start of their college experience.  In addition, some meet their future best friends, classmates, and roommates.  The Orientation staff does their best to make it an enjoyable experience, but it is up to YOU as to how fun it will be.  You have to take the steps to make the most out of the experience and meet new people!
