Assistive Technology Room

The Assistive Technology room is intended to offer greater access to equipment needed by those students who are learning disabled, hearing and/or visually impaired.  Library personnel are not trained in the use of this equipment.  All users are expected to seek out training from the Counseling Center or a peer mentor recommended by the Counseling Center.

In addition, please always communicate room use issues (regarding access to the room, need for materials such as paper or toner, etc) to the library personnel on duty.  You may also email comments to lib.reference@purchase.edu

The room is equipped with two computer workstations with headphones, keyboards with large print inverted lettering (upon request only), two scanners, a printer, a Braille printer and one Clearview by Optalec magnifying reader. We also offer the following software:

  • Jaws screen reading software
  • Dragon/naturally speaking software
  • Kurzweil scanning/reading software
  • Kurzweil software for learning disabilities
  • GoodFeel Braille Music translator
  • Lime Music Software
  • SharpEye Music Reader

The Assistive Technology room is located on the library's main floor, just around the corner from the Reference desk.

Please go to the Circulation Desk to gain access to the room.

For questions concerning the operation of this room, please contact Ronnie Mait, Coordinator of the Special Student Services at (914) 251-6035.
