Read before connecting to BlackboardTM

GETTING STARTED WITH BLACKBOARD:  A Student Guide

NOTE: You must have an active Purchase College Exchange email account in order to access Blackboard and ERES (Electronic Reserves). To activate your Purchase College Exchange email account or to reset your email password, visit Student Services on the Web.

  • Activate your web browser (preferably Microsoft Internet Explorer)
    * * The AOL and Safari web browsers will not work.
    Recommended alternate web browsers:  Mozilla Firefox, Opera

  • Click on the "Connect to Blackboard" link below.
    Enter your Purchase College username and password in the login box.

    Your Blackboard username depends on the operating system (OS) of the computer that you are using:

    * Windows 98/95/NT/ME, your username is: firstname.lastname

    * Windows XP and Mac, your username is: firstname.lastname@purchase.edu
    (Your Purchase College email address)

    Windows XP and Mac, you could alternatively use: tnt_lan\firstname.lastname

Your Blackboard  password is the same password that you use to access your Purchase College Exchange email account.

If you are asked to provide a domain, use tnt_lan

  • Click on "User Login" to go to your Blackboard main page.

Check Your Personal Information:
Once you are logged into Blackboard, under Tools on the left side, click on "Personal Information" > "Edit Personal Information" to update your account information. You may currently be listed as "User, Blackboard" which must be changed in order to properly "enroll" into your course page. Click on "Edit Personal Information", enter only your first name, last name, and your Purchase College email address.

To “Enroll” in your course(s) on Blackboard:
(use of the term 'enroll' in this context only refers to Blackboard, not the Registrar.)

  • Click on the blue “Courses” tab and click on the orange “Go” button or search for your course’s keyword in the search field.
  • Locate your course and click on the corresponding “Enroll” button to the right. 
  • Click “Submit” and you will receive a receipt of your enrollment.
  • Click “OK.” You will now be taken to your course’s homepage.

Remember to always Logout of the system by clicking the logout icon at the top of any Blackboard screen.

Faculty: To have your course materials posted to Blackboard:

Please download, complete, and return the Library Reserve Form - 2008 to the Library Circulation desk along with your clean, first-generation, single-sided, 8.5" x 11" photocopies. Please make a note that the document(s) are to be posted to the Blackboard system.

Please allow up to two (2) weeks for your documents to be scanned and posted to your Blackboard course page.

 

To place Audio/Visual materials on Reserve, please completely fill out the AV Reserve Form  and return it to the Library Circulation desk.
