The Learning Center at Purchase College is proud to announce that online tutorial services through the website Smarthinking.com are now available. All Purchase College students have free access to all services of the website, including 24/7 access to writing and math tutors, scheduled “live” sessions and chats with tutors, online writing lab paper submission feedback, and the ability to ask individual questions to subject-specific tutors. 

The website offers tutoring in writing, Spanish, ESL, math, chemistry, physics, economics, and biology. Students can access Smarthinking by using the link on their Blackboard homepage under “tools.”

We encourage students to use the service at any time. Appointments, live sessions, and paper submissions are easily managed through the student’s Smarthinking homepage. Students may contact tutors in real-time during scheduled hours (schedule available here: http://www.smarthinking.com/static/pub_common/hours.cfm?st=1). Students may also schedule individual online sessions and submit papers through the OWL (online writing lab). Students are advised to submit specific assignment instructions when prompted to ensure that the tutors can provide accurate advice. 

Remember that this service should be seen as a supplement to students’ classes and personal study. Smarthinking tutors aim to help students become independent workers and critical thinkers; the tutors will not provide answers or grades.
