General medicines (OTC, or “over the counter”) for pain, upset stomach, colds or flu, as well as vitamins and ointments, can be purchased without prescription in the USA.  Other drugs, such as antibiotics, cannot be purchased without a "prescription" (written authorization from your physician).  Not all drugstores have a pharmacy on the premises where prescription drug orders can be filled.  Though most common prescription drugs can be obtained through the Purchase Health Services office, consult them or for a recommended local pharmacy.
