Bundle of Energy
SUNY Purchase recently underwent a comprehensive Energy Master Plan identifying several energy efficiency and sustainabile opportunities on campus which will lead to:
*Decreased energy costs
*Lower Greenhouse Gas Emissions
*Improved indoor air quality
The College presently uses a variety of energy sources including electricity, natural gas, biodiesel, oil and gasoline. In the future, the College plans to implement more sustainable energy sources where feasible.
The SUNY system has developed a program targets for the SUNY campuses. Per Executive Order 88, by 2020, the state has mandated a collective 20 percent reduction in energy, using 2010 as its baseline year.
The Energy Master Plan provides a strategy through 2020 for Purchase to accomplish this mandate. Energy efficiency upgrades include but not limited to:
*variable frequency drives
*building management system.
Water conservation is also important, with increasing water rates, every drop of water saved, means a lot. Projects include :
*low-flow showers and sinks
*leak detection analysis
*cooling tower upgrades
Finally, sustainable energy systems are being investigated including:
*combined heat and power systems.
