Campus Technology Services

Campus Technology Services (CTS) provides information technology facilities, services and support for the entire College Community.

Audio Visual Equipment Loans

As the use of rich media has permeated every area of the curriculum, CTS has established a pool of equipment available for loan to students, faculty and staff. The equipment can be used for class assignments to create rich media materials, to present, exhibit or display them, or for any other purpose. There is a full range of AV gear available from hi-def video cameras to flip cameras, from high-end still cameras to lighting kits, flat panel displays, and audio recorders.

Equipment loans are generally for a one-week period, and there is a simple online request form to request equipment. While we will try to accommodate last-minute walk-in requests, we encourage you to reserve the equipment in advance.  Please understand we are unable to fill requests made after 4:00 pm for the same day.  Priority will be given to requests for academic purposes.

Once you've reserved equipment, it can be picked up and returned in SS0025 from 8am-9:45pm Monday-Thursday and 8am-6:45pm on Fridays.  Equipment not picked up on the specified date will be returned to the pool and made available for loan to other students.

All CTS equipment is bar-coded, and items returned after the due date may result in a late fee, a flag being placed on your account, and/or denial of future equipment requests until fees are paid and flag is lifted.  Broken, lost or missing components or accessories may result in a flag being placed on your account for the dollar amount of the replacement item, possible suspension of printing privileges, and denial of future equipment requests until fees are paid and flag is lifted.

Faculty should refer to the CTS Classroom Technology Services page for instructions on submitting classroom equipment requests.

Students should log into the CTS Work Order System to submit equipment requests.

Classroom Technology Services: CTS manages and operates a variety of smart classrooms, computer labs, and portable equipment (computer/projector) that can be reserved for classes, meetings or events as needed.  Most classrooms already contain a stationary TV/DVD/VCR player.

Videoconferencing and Webcasting: CTS also provides Internet-based videoconferencing and Webcasting services that can be used for classes, meetings or events.  Please log into the CTS Work Order System to submit your request.

Residential Network Service (ResNet): CTS provides data network and computing support services for all 2,500 campus residents through ResNet with two fast Ethernet ports in each room.

Administrative Computing Services: CTS provides a variety of Web-based self-service administrative applications for faculty including class lists, grading and other key services. Each class section has its own e-mail listserve, as does each Board of Study and each academic division. A complete list of services is available on the Faculty Staff Portal page.

Telephone and Voice Mail: CTS provides telephone, voicemail, and Unified Messaging services to all faculty and staff offices.  CTS highly recommends that you sign up for Unified Messaging, which forwards your campus voicemail to your e-mail account as sound files; making it easier to manage your voicemessages from any Internet connection.  Please note that Faculty and Staff must read and acknowledge the College Telephone Policy.

CTS provides E-mail accounts for all Purchase College faculty, staff and students.  E-mail accounts for students are created automatically upon enrollment, and can be activated on the web at home.purchase.edu. Faculty and staff email accounts are created within four hours of obtaining your campus I.D. or More Card, and can also be activated online through the campus website.

The CTS Helpdesk offers technical support for any computer, networking, software and communications problems to students, faculty and staff.

Wireless Ethernet access (802.11b/g) is available in many areas of the campus including the A+D Building, Music, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, the Library, CCN and CCS.  CTS continues to work to expand this convenience service throughout the campus.  Since Wireless Ethernet operates on an unregulated radio frequency (shared with cordless phones, microwave ovens, etc), no guarantees of service are possible.  Update your Purchase College wireless network access to a secure encrypted connection by accessing the Purchase Wireless system and signing in with your username (firstname.lastname) and Purchase email password:

Social Networking: The College has its own Wiki and Blog tool, Planet Purchase, that can be used by any member of the Purchase College Community (it requires a Purchase ID).  The College has also purchased an island in Second Life, and is working to establish a public presence there.  In the meantime, Purchase faculty and students are welcome to use the island's sandbox for experimentation in this exciting new environment.

Internet Service: The College has one full and one partial T3 Internet connection totalling 65mbps.  Internet traffic is shaped and prioritized to prevent any one type of traffic from overwhelming other types of traffic.  No traffic is blocked entirely.  If you find that your online game or console is not working properly, it may be that a particular obscure port has to be opened - we have covered most popular games and consoles already, but this is ever-shifting terrain.  To protect the College community from cyber-threats, unused ports are disabled.

* Please note that all equipment requests must be submitted through the CTS Work Order System.  Charges may apply for certain equipment and events.  Please understand we may not be able to fill all requests due to time constraints, equipment availability, and scheduling.  However, we will always do our best to accommodate you.  If you need to speak to someone, please call CTS at 914-251-6465 M-F between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm.
