George A. Thompson '79 (dance) is the director of the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech. Among George's numerous achievements is the creation of an artist residency program, ARTech, which “explore[s] the connection between art and technology.” Recently, choreographer and media artist Jonah Bokaer was in residence and premiered a new piece, Filter. James Spione '85 (film), a native of the Hudson Valley region, first achieved national recognition in 1987, when he received a Student Academy Award® for his Purchase thesis film Prelude, about an adolescent boy's solo journey into the Adirondack Mountains. Rick Briggs MFA '92 received a 2011 Guggenheim fellowship for his work as a painter. As a resident of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, since the early 1980s, Rick has focused on his art-making, but has also spent time as a self-employed house painter. Terri Fajardo '02 (sociology) is currently part owner and marketing director for Creators Media Group in Pleasantville, N.Y., an advertising agency specializing in broadcast commercials and digital media. Katherine Bradford MFA '88, a 2011 Guggenheim fellow, began painting during her childhood in Maine. Her early works were “serious abstraction,” but Kathy points out that “even the early abstract pieces were based on natural objects or forms.” Her recent work with figures has its roots in abstraction, and humor plays an important role.
