George A Thompson (Dance '79) is the Director of the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech. Among George's numerous achievements is the creation of an artist residency program, ARTech, which "explore[s] the connection between art and technology." Recently, choreographer and media artist, Jonah Bokaer, was in residence and premiered a new piece, Filter.
After graduating Purchase, George danced professionally with American Ballet Theatre from 1979 - 1983. He then went on to graduate study at Fordham University and American University Arts Management. He has worked in arts management for the past 25 years, including such venues as: the Ferst Center for the Arts (at Georgia Tech), American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, Omaha Performing Arts, The Washington Ballet, Straz Performing Arts Center (formally Tampa Bay PAC) and the Purchase Performing Arts Center.
