Some students enter Purchase knowing exactly what they want to major in, but many do not. Intellectual exploration is an important part of a Purchase education, and we encourage our students to explore widely. Our freshman program in the liberal arts and sciences and our core curriculum are great places to start. With courses taught by professors from the School of Humanities and the School of Natural and Social Sciences, students are exposed to a variety of disciplines and methodologies. These courses often lead students to a major.

Some students need a bit more help finding a major. Our Career Development Center works with students as early as their freshman year to help them identify potential careers and the majors that will help them fulfill their goals. The associate dean of liberal arts and sciences and the staff at the Advising Center are also valuable resources for students looking for majors.

Jump in, explore, that’s what it’s all about!
