Cost of attendance

Your Cost of Attendance (COA)

The annual amount it will cost you to go to school changes from year to year.  The Cost of Attendance is determined by using rules established by law. The COA includes tuition and fees; on campus room and board (or a housing and food allowance for off-campus students); and allowances for books, supplies, transportation, loan fees, and, if applicable, dependent child care. It also includes miscellaneous personal expenses.  Costs related to a disability are also covered. The COA includes reasonable costs for eligible study-abroad programs as well. For students attending less than half time, the COA includes only tuition and fees and an allowance for books, supplies, transportation, and dependent-care expenses. Feel free to talk to the Office of Financial Aid if you have any unusual expenses that might affect your cost of attendance.

To calculate the amount of need-based aid for which you are eligible, and to determine you and your family's ability to pay your share of the cost of your education, Purchase College uses the Federal Methodology formula. This is a national, standardized formula used to determine what students and their families can reasonably pay toward a college education. In other words, it provides a standardized means of assessing each student and their family's ability to afford, over time, the costs of your education at Purchase College. It is not an estimate of how much cash you have on hand or a value judgment on your current financial situation.

What Does a Purchase College Education Cost?

The federal government expects the family to be the primary source of financial assistance to the student.  However, when the family does not have the ability to pay, according to the federal methodology formula described above, the federal, state, institutional or other outside agency may step in to help you pay some of the cost of your education.
