School of Humanities

Curious. Bold. Imaginative. Questioning. Intellectually adventurous. These are some of the qualities of the typical student in the School of Humanities at Purchase—though these students can hardly be called typical. The majors offered in the School of Humanities provide a solid foundation in the study of human culture, but also invite students to question conventional wisdom and explore the relationship between traditional modes of understanding and new styles of inquiry appropriate to the 21st century.

With several majors focused on the creative arts (art history, creative writing, journalism, and literature) and others that help round out a classic program in the liberal arts (history, language and culture, and philosophy), Purchase College programs in the humanities challenge students to “Think Wide Open.”
