Follow these instructions when applying to Purchase College as a Transfer Creative Writing applicant.
Note: International Applicants must follow the international application instructions.
Note: Students who have not reached their academic potential because of limited financial resources and inadequate academic preparation should review the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) at Purchase College.
Step 1: Send your completed application (after your guidance counselor has reviewed it), a check for $40 (payable to "SUNY ASC"), and your Official Transcripts to:

Step 2: Request for Official College Transcripts. Students who have completed less than 30 college credits must also request Official High School Transcripts or GED, and SAT or ACT scores. Contact each institution, and have them send the documents directly to:

Step 3: Submit your essay. See Supplemental Admission Form for guidelines. The essay is REQUIRED. In addition, if there are any gaps, of 6 months or more, between High School Graduation and today, please also include a separate Time Line Essay describing your activities during this period.
Step 4: Submit your portfolio
Students applying to the Creative Writing Program are required to submit a portfolio to:

The portfolio must contain:

A letter of intent addressing: A. Why you want to be admitted to the program; B. What you consider to be your writing strengths. C. What you consider to be your writing weaknesses.
Samples of either Poetry or Fiction: 2-3 Shore Stories or 8-10 Poems
Two letters of recommendation are required. You should ask two individuals who are familiar with your writing abilities (former teachers, writing workshop instructors, advisors, counselors, etc.), to write letters, and put them in a sealed envelope, which they have signed on the seal, and include these w/ your portfolio.
