ISTANBUL

Istanbul is a profoundly diverse and multicultural city with a rich heritage spanning many centuries and epochs.  Known by various names during different periods, Istanbul was and continues to be a gravitational center of the Orthodox, Christian, Balkan, Caucasian, Anatolian and Central Asian worlds.  It is an intriguing cultural capital of Europe.

Besides its cultural and historical riches, Istanbul is also unique in its topographical peculiarities and its relationship with the sea.  Natural features form dramatic and imposing aspects of the urban fabric along the Bosphorus, which bisects the city.  Classes related to these features will be taught aboard seagoing vessels commanding beautiful views along the historic Bosphorus and the Golden Horn

Students will have plenty of opportunities to get to the know the charming cafes and craft bazaars, historic churches, beautiful synagogues, majestic places, mosques, and ancient aqueducts that populate the city of Istanbul
