The Psychology Program:
Overview of Typical Progress Through the Major

Freshman & Sophomore Years

Successful completion of these three courses is required for advanced standing in the major:

  1. PSY 1530/Introduction to Psychology
  2. One psychology elective
  3. PSY 2320/Behavioral Statistics

Recommended:

  1. One biology course
  2. One anthropology/sociology course
  3. One philosophy course
  4. Possibly 1-2 upper-level psychology electives
  5. Core curriculum requirements

PSY 2320/Behavioral Statistics is normally taken during the sophomore year. PSY 3550/Experimental Psychology may be taken in the spring of sophomore year, if advanced standing has been achieved.

Junior Year

  1. Fall semester: PSY 3550/Experimental Psychology* (can be taken in the spring of the sophomore year)
  2. Fall semester: PSY 3890/Psychology Junior Seminar*
  3. Spring semester: PSY 3660/Physiological Psychology
    *Prerequisite: Advanced standing

Recommended:

  1. Two or more upper-level psychology electives
  2. Remaining general education requirements

Senior Year

  1. PSY 4990/Senior Project (two semesters)
  2. PSY 4880 and 4890/Psychology Senior Seminar I and II
  3. Remaining upper-level psychology electives
  4. Other remaining requirements
