The Chemistry Program: Equipment and Facilities

The Natural Sciences Building is well-equipped with instructional and research facilities for study in the chemical sciences. Each of the chemistry faculty has a modern laboratory in which collaborative research with students is carried out. In addition to numerous standard items of equipment, students and faculty have available for their use the following:

  • Hewlett-Packard 5890A GC/MS
  • Varian 3400 GC with FID/ECD
  • Dionex 4000 HPLC with ultraviolet and electrochemical detectors
  • Waters HPLC 590 with photodiode array detector and WISP autosampler<
  • Nicolet Nexus 470 FT-IR
  • Perkin Elmer 283 IR
  • Varian T-60 NMR with variable temperature probe
  • Cary 118 C UV/VIS with kinetics accessory
  • Perkin-Elmer LS-5 spectrofluorometer
  • Perkin-Elmer Analyst 100 atomic absorption spectrometer
  • BAS CV-1B cyclic voltamograph
  • EG & G 384B polarographic analyzer
  • Pine AFRDEA Bi-potentiostat
  • Parr Adiabatic Calorimeter
  • Parkard 1600 Liquid Scintillation Counter
  • Ultracentrifuge
  • Electrophoresis equipment

Software packages such as CAChe and Hyperchem are available for molecular modeling and computational work.
