Equipment & Facilities

The Natural Sciences Building is well-equipped with instructional and research facilities for study in the chemical sciences. Each of the chemistry faculty has a modern laboratory in which collaborative research with students is carried out. In addition to numerous standard items of equipment, students and faculty have available for their use the following:

Hewlett-Packard 5890A GC/MS
Varian 3400 GC with FID/ECD
Dionex 4000 HPLC with ultraviolet and electrochemical detectors
Waters HPLC 590 with photodiode array detector and WISP autosampler
Nicolet Nexus 470 FT-IR
Perkin Elmer 283 IR
Varian T-60 NMR with variable temperature probe
Cary 118 C UV/VIS with kinetics accessory
Perkin-Elmer LS-5 spectrofluorometer
Perkin-Elmer Analyst 100 atomic absorption spectrometer
BAS CV-1B cyclic voltammograph,
EG & G 384B polarographic analyzer
Pine AFRDEA Bi-potentiostat
Parr Adiabatic Calorimeter
Parkard 1600 Liquid Scintillation Counter
ultracentrifuge
electrophoresis equipment

Software packages such as CAChe and Hyperchem are available for
molecular modeling and computational work.
