Research Interests

Dr. Kraemer studies the production dynamics of marine macrophytes through organism-level physiological and growth responses. He has worked with seagrasses and macroalgae, the dominant producers and habitat formers in nearshore marine environments. He also applies basic ecological principles to aquaculture, and the mitigation of aquaculture impacts.

Dr. Kraemer's other research focuses on the ecological impacts of the non-native Asian shore crab (Hemigrapsus sanguineus), now an important and sometimes dominant member of the local intertidal community in the northeast U.S.  A new project examines the mechanisms underlying the spread of a non-native red seaweed (Grateloupia turuturu) into Long Island Sound, and bait products as vectors for non-natives and toxic microalgae.
